Spidey-fans: Don’t watch new Far From Home trailer if you haven’t seen End Game

Peter Parker (Tom Holland) just wants to enjoy a summer vacation in Venice in Marvel’s Spiderman: Far From Home.

Now that Avengers: End Game is out and breaking global box office records, Marvel Studios has released a second action-packed trailer for the upcoming Spiderman: Far From Home. But be forewarned: if you haven’t seen End Game yet, this new trailer contains some major spoilers.

(Warning: major spoilers for Avengers: End Game below!)

When we last saw Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), he was breaking our hearts by turning to dust in front of his mentor, Tony Stark. (Stupid Thanos with his stupid Infinity Glove.) Far From Home will purportedly pick up a few minutes after the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. And as anyone who’s seen that film knows, the Avengers successfully defeated Thanos and reversed the Snappening, bringing back Peter Parker along with everyone else who got dusted in Infinity War.

Homecoming Director Jon Watts is back at the helm for this second installment, which Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said will “launch [Spider-Man] into a very new cinematic universe.” The first trailer dropped in January. It confirmed that Far From Home would focus on Peter’s first trip to Europe with his high school friends—a classic rite of passage for many teenagers. Still mourning the death of his mentor, Tony Stark, Peter, his BFF Ned (Jacob Batalon), MJ (Zendaya), and a few others find themselves in Venice. But before Peter has much of a chance for sightseeing, he’s recruited by an un-dusted Fury to battle an unnamed evil. “I think Nick Fury just hijacked my summer vacation,” Peter moans.

Spider-Man will get some much-needed extra muscle in the form of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), supposedly an old friend of Fury’s. Mysterio was rumored to be a villain, and he could still become one, in fine comics tradition. But for now, he’s being set up as a possible heroic successor to Iron Man. We learn from this new trailer that he’s actually a powerful being from another universe—actually, he’s from Earth, “just not ours,” per Fury. That’s right, we’re finally in multiverse territory with the MCU, as Thanos’ snap apparently tore a hole between dimensions.

Mysterio isn’t the only entity that came through, either. This time around, Spidey and company will be battling the Elementals, extra-dimensional humanoid beings who are (a) immortal and (b) wield power over natural forces. Their leader is Hellfire, who generates flames. We also catch glimpses of what appears to be Hydron (with the ability to control water) and Magnum (who controls earth). Zephyr, who controls air, rounds out the fearsome foursome.

Peter isn’t convinced he’s the right superhero for the job, but Thor, Captain Marvel, and the rest are off on other missions, it seems. Besides, “Bitch, please, you’ve been to space,” Fury reminds him. “Are you going to step up or not?” He’s Spiderman. Of course he’ll step up.

Spiderman: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2, 2019.
